California Farm Bureau Health Plans

The California Farm Bureau Health Plans used to be administered by Nationwide. In late 2007 Health Net purchased the California Farm Bureau health plan and are now the underwriters. Health Net and California Farm Bureau now offer individual and family health insurance plans in California. The Ohio branch is still managed by Nationwide. California Farm Bureau plans are unique in several ways compaired to most other health insurers.

Other carriers will cover you out of state, but it is considered "out of network" and so the benefits are reduced. Usually you pay 50% of the cost for services when you are out of state and need non-emergency medical coverage.

Another unique requirement of California Farm Bureau is that they require all members to joing the California Farm Bureau. The California Farm Bureau has an annual membership fee to become a member. The organization offers a plethora of member benefits and discounts, including access to the California Farm Bureau Health Insurance plans. With your annual memebership, you get a newsletter and have access to important information regarding California agriculture.
